We finished the day with a meal in a bar that had a menu of local specialities. Shane had the carbonnade flamande, on my recommendation, a Flemish beef stew cooked in beer, which often includes gingerbread. He certainly said it tasted sweet. I felt in a salad mood, despite the rainy weather, and found a local one. I lucked out that I had not read the menu thoroughly as I would have avoided the local cheese renowned for its strong smell, had I seen it was in the salad. It turns out that Salade du Nord includes breaded, melted, maroille cheese, and in that form it didn't smell at all and was delicious and creamy.
