Leaves turning, time for change.
Some things are built to last.
We reached the point where we thought a boat can go no further.
You don’t have to travel far or fast to see extraordinary things.
How about a boat trip today?
Observations
Brief encounters with creatures and Carnforth, setting a girl on a train.
We get almost as near to Scotland as we can.
Return to Lancaster canal and a Lunar landing
Some things just have to be done because they are there.
A spot of bother on the way to Glasson Dock
Finding out what’s down below
Today I stopped being worried about getting behind.
Go lassie go!
A quiet day for a change… Or is it?
A day for exploring Preston in warm sunny weather.
Ready to Ribble …no turning back, unless the staff tell you or the light isn’t green
Today is the much anticipated day we cross the Ribble Link.
Heading towards the wait for going into the unknown. Tension mounts.
We avoided most of the rain while reaching our rendezvous for the Ribble Link with half a day in hand.
Feathered fellow travellers manage better, without any tools.
Nature is trying to take back control of this section of canal.
Taking care of nature.
We picked up a passenger today.
A taste of summer…
By the end of the day we are no longer going the long way round.
Keeping to schedule in the rain, damp but not dismal.
Industry, art, nature and the right tool for the job.
A mixed day of rural beauty and industry.
Locking in the morning, percussive maintenance in the afternoon.
The interconnectedness of all things and make do and mend.
The water changed colour as we got on to the Trent and Mersey. Familiar and unfamiliar territory.
We continued on course today, but the course was far from straight.
At bridge 66…. Enjoying the many bridges of the Macclesfield canal again.
Looking forward to getting the most out of the day.
As the canal and river trust negotiate road closures to get access to clear the tree, we reroute and makes start on the long way round.
Going back the way you came is like having eyes in the back of your head.
Sometimes the only way forward is to go back.
Delightful sights down the Marple locks
Back to the frog display and other local delicacies. More moorhen close encounters.
Some days you hardly notice the sky, today it made its presence felt.
Animals in unexpected places and where do you think I saw these flowers?
Helping each other through a wet day.
Today we started to get cold feet.
Recording and displaying information is the theme for the day.
Beautiful old bridges were the order of the day on the Macclesfield.
Meandered past working potteries with the old kilns on the other side. All day the Caldon is full of twists and turns. Both in the canal and in fortunes.
We returned to our northerly route including another long tunnel.
Feathered and Non-Feathered Friends
Today we deviated from our route towards the Ribble Link.
Lots to see and do as usual and a new tool to make life easier.
A day spent getting over the problem of having no water.
Happy birthday, despite a pain in the neck (not Shane).
Canals and duck ponds have plenty of water. None of it is fit to drink.
